1/20/14 Rush City

In a makeup game against conference rival Rush City, Pine City was able to take advantage of the home court advantage and pull away with a 62-39 win.

Defense in the second half played a big role as the Dragons were able to hold the Tigers to 14 second half points, extending from a 30-25 halftime lead.

Five players scored 7 or more points for the Dragons: Kole Jusczak (17), Mitchy Hansmann (14), Noah Adams (12), Gabe Gonyea (8), and Austin Pavelka (7).

Gonyea, Jusczak, and Hansmann all had 5 boards.  Hansmann also lead the team in assists with 4.

There is little rest for Pine City as they must turn around and play Aitkin on Tuesday night at home, which is will be the second of their three home games this week.

1/18/14 Ellsworth (WI)

Pine City fell to Ellsworth (WI) 90-31 on Saturday afternoon.  Lack of scoring did not help Pine City in their defeat as no players were able to reach double digit scoring.

The Dragons look to bounce back when conference rival Rush City comes to town.  The Dragons are 0-4 against Rush in Coach Allen's tenure.

Practice on 1/16/14

C Squad: Early at the Elementary
JV/V: Early at HS with "1/2 way interviews after practice".  Wrestling will start between 445-5.

7/8 Tryouts

Any 7th or 8th grade boys basketball player looking to continue to play this year may come to the tryout after school today at the high school.

The tryouts will consist of the exact same tryout the 9-12 grade athletes went through earlier in the year.

Contact Coach Allen with any questions.

1/14/14 @Siren (WI)

The Dragons were unable to overcome the immense adversity in a 45-31 loss at Siren on Tuesday night.  The game had the feel of a "typical Wisconsin basketball game" with low scoring, patient offense, and stalling going on throughout the game.

Siren lead 20-17 at the half that saw foul trouble challenge Pine City.  This continued throughout the second half.

Kole Jusczak lead Pine City with 16 points and 7 rebounds.

1/14/14 (@Siren) Information

There will now be a "C-squad" game at Siren that was not previously scheduled due to an increase in numbers for Siren Boys Basketball.

Due to this, the bus will now leave after school on Tuesday for the game.  The C-squad and JV will be dropped off at the school while the Varsity will go and grab a bite to eat.  There is only one gym so the games have to be played one at a time.

1/10/14 @Ogilvie

Pine City left Ogilvie High School on Friday night 77-45 with their 8th win of the season raising their overall record to 8-3 and 5-1 in conference play.

Noah Adams set the standard early with 25 total points in the game, 17 in the first half.  Mitchell Hansmann begin to find his shooting stroke with two 3 pointers in the second half and finishing with 12 points.  James Pixley added 12 points while sophomore Kole Jusczak added 10.

Better full court and half court defense in the second half allowed the Dragons to begin the second half with a 24-4 run extending their lead to 57-27 to start the second half.

Pine City is also currently ranked 20th for Minnesota Class 2A in points allowed averaging 52.6 points given up a game.

1/9/14 @HF

The Dragons were able to gut out a big win at H-F High School last night 57-54.  Balanced scoring helped lead Pine City to the victory with five players having 9 or more points (Adams-14, Jusczak-10, Gonyea, Hansmann, Pixley-9).

After squandering a first half lead, The Dragons found themselves only up one at half.  Down 11 at the nine minute mark, a "big" lineup helped spark a comeback lead by Gabe Gonyea and James Pixley coming off the bench.

Pixley had 10 boards just missing his first career varsity double-double.  Gonyea added 6 boards to go with 2 timely steals.  Hansmann again added more then just scoring to the game with 5 steals, 4 boards, and 2 assists.  Adams lead the team in assists with 5 and also was able to pull down 5 rebounds.

The Dragons next will travel to conference foe Ogilvie on Friday.

1/4/14 Duluth Marshall

Pine City was able to overcome the uncharacteristically bad loss to Braham with a win over visiting Duluth Marshall on Saturday 61-46.  14 players were able to get into the game for the Dragons with 9 players scoring.  Noah Adams lead the way with 18 points, 5 steals, and 5 assists followed by fellow sophomore Kole Jusczak with 11 points and 7 boards.  Gabe Gonyea came up with 4 big first half steals leading to transition points while Mitchell Hansmann pulled down 4 boards and came up with 5 steals on the day.

1/3/14 @Braham

The Dragons fell to the Braham High School Bombers Friday night 73-29.  Flat play coming out of the break plagued Pine City throughout the night at Braham.  On a positive note, the Pine City crowd was amazing and loud throughout the game.  It was the loudest traveling crowd in recent memory.

1/6/14 @H-F

The H-F game was cancelled today due to the weather.

There will be an OPTIONAL JV/V practice on 1/6/14 from 330-6 at the high school.

The H-F game will now be on 1/9/14 at the same time as previously scheduled.

The meal that was scheduled for 1/9/14 is officially cancelled.
