1/28/15 (Rush City) Game Recap

Pine City held on for the victory on Tuesday night at home against Rush City 58-55 in front of a loud home crowd.

The contest proved to be a see-saw battle that showed Rush City continually fighting back.  The Tigers did lead by 1 at half-time, but a nice run to start the second half proved to be the difference in the game for The Dragons.

Even scoring again helped The Dragons in the contest as Noah Adams (16 points, 5 rebounds, 6 steals, 6 assists), Nathan Kleppe (11 points, 3 rebounds), Mitchell Hansmann (10 points, 4 rebounds/assists/steals), and Kole Jusczak (10 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists) all scored in double digits.  Coming off the bench, James Pixley again held his own on the inside on defense with 5 blocks.

Pine City will host Moose Lake-Willow River on Thursday at home in a huge section matchup with the possibility of playoff seeding on the line.

1/23/15 (Braham) Game Recap

Pine City fell to Braham at home Friday night 79-54.

It was a close contest in the first half, with both teams fighting tooth and nail.  Braham was able to end the first half and start the second half with small runs that would prove the difference in the contest moving forward.

Kole Jusczak (18 points, 12 rebounds) again lead the inside offensive attack for The Dragons with a great connection with fellow junior Noah Adams (11 points, 7 assists, 3 steals).

Mitchell Hansmann (14 points) was finding the mark from deep in the contest while Connor Clark (6 points, 3 rebounds) and James Pixley (3 rebounds) worked hard on the inside on both ends of the floor.

Two huge seeding games await PC this week with Rush City (Conference) on Tuesday at home and Moose Lake-Willow River (Section) on Thursday at home.

5th Grade Boys (1/24 and 1/25)

Siren GNBL Tournament
Saturday, January 24th
3rd place

Rush City 37 Pine City 29
Pine City got in foul trouble early and was not able to shut down Rush’s drive to the hoop.  Pine fought back in the 4th quarter with Jusczak putting in 8 points but it wasn’t enough to overcome the 1st half deficit.
Clear Lake 39 Pine City 24
The game started with a nice 3 by Waxberg but again foul trouble let Clear Lake take full advantage of the bonus.  Some height from Clear Lake shut down our top scorer and forced the ball outside.  Petersen contributed 10 in this effort but the team again fell short.
Pine City 38 Hayward 13
Petersen found his grove on a side drive to the hoop and Waxberg and Willert both put in a 3 during the contest.  It was a nice win after two hard losses.

Scoring Recap
Juscazk 33, Petersen 25, Waxberg 16, Willert 7, Knutson 3, Dee 2, Overtoom 2, Swanson 2, Plasek 1

Braham Bomber Tournament
Sunday, January 25th
3rd place

Pine City 26 Milaca 10
In the first round of this 8 team standard bracket tournament, Pine City took an early lead and never looked back.  This was the first season of play and the first tournament for this Milaca team and PC was able to move the ball around and work out some kinks in their offense.
Moose Lake/Willow River 31 Pine City 20
Pine City came out strong with a 3 by Waxberg but MLWR was an experienced team and PC was down 5-24 at the half.  A strong second half just wasn’t enough to get back in the game.  MLWR went on to beat Mahtomedi for 1st place.
Pine City 18 Braham 13
Neither team could get their offense going and the score was 2-2 at the half.  Pine City found their grove with 5 minutes left in the game as Petersen took the ball to the hoop from the outside corner and their defense couldn’t shut him down.

Scoring Recap
Petersen 22, Jusczak 13, Waxberg 12, Swanson 9, Knutson 4, Dee 2, Willert 2

1/20/15 (H-F) Game Review

Pine City outlasted Hinckley-Finlayson on Tuesday night with a final score 70-56.

The Dragons jumped out early lead by great execution and focus.  1/2 way through the first half, H-F battled back cutting the lead to 11 at half for PC.

A very physical game ensued in the second half with PC allowing their lead to be cut to 2 at one point before regaining control through the same execution and focus that gave them the early lead to start the game.

Even scoring helped The Dragons in the contest lead by starters Easton Foss (18 points), Mitchell Hansmann (16 points, 4 steals), Noah Adams (15 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds) and Kole Jusczak (11 points, 10 rebounds).  James Pixley (6 points, 4 blocks) gave a good spark off the bench along with solid, physical play by fellow-senior Connor Clark (4 rebounds).

Pine City will now host Conference rival/foe Braham on Friday night in Pine City.
