2/21/15 (Home Tournament) 5th Grade

5th graders took 3rd place at their home tournament on Saturday, Feb 21st.  They ended the season with a disappointing 1 point loss to River Falls White.

Game 1 Loss to Hudson Silver 14-47  The last time we played this team we only lost by 5 points so we felt good about our chances of playing a great game.  However we got in foul trouble early on and just couldn’t get the ball inside to the post.
Game 2 Win against Unity 43-19  We had a slow start on offense but hit our mark in the 2nd quarter and never looked back.
Game 3 Loss to River Falls White 26-25  This was a fairly close contest all the way through but at one point in the 3rd quarter we were leading by 7.  A couple of injuries and some foul trouble proved disastrous and the lead slipped away and most of the 4th quarter was a see-saw battle.  We had several opportunities to score in the last minute but couldn’t convert it to win it.

Scoring Recap-Jusczak-19, Waxberg-19, Swanson-17, Petersen-11, Knutson and Willert-4, Overtoom, Plasek, Dee, and Irlbeck each contributed 2.

We finished the season with a 7-8 record.  We had 1-1st place, 3-3rd place and 1-6th place finish.

2/24/15 (Round 1 Playoffs: H-F) Game Recap

#4 Pine City defeated #5 H-F at home in front of a loud and green crowd 86-56 in the first round of the Section 7AA Playoffs.

A sluggish defensive start plagued The Dragons to start the game, but were able to pick up the defensive intensity going into halftime; it would stay with them for most of the rest of the game.

In the contest, Pine City broke the school record for most 3's made in a game with 15.  Mitchell Hansmann (20 points, 5 assists) lead the 3 point shooting with 6 made 3's followed by Noah Adams (27 points, 4 assists) with 4 and Kole Jusczak (15 points, 4 rebounds) with 3.  Clay Logan (5 points, 4 assists) and Easton Foss (9 points) both chipped in with 1.

The hot shooting helped the team keep the attack on as they shot 61% in the game.

Connor Clark (3 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 points) and James Pixley (4 steals, 4 points, 1 dunk) worked on the back side and controlled the paint.

This was the first playoff win for the program since the 2007-08 season.

Next up, Pine City will be traveling to Duluth (Denfeld High School) for a match up against the winner of #1 Barnum and #8 Aitkin.  The game will be at 730pm this Saturday.

A HUGE thank you to our young fans for entertaining Coach Newman from Barnum as he scouted PC.

2/19/15 (@Barnum) Game Recap

Pine City fell behind early at #8 Barnum on Thursday night and were unable to dig themselves out of the hole as they had last Saturday and lost 86-40.

Stifling defense, physicality, and crisp offense derailed The Dragons as they were never able to really find a groove throughout the night.

Only two Dragons were able to score in double digits on the night with Kole Jusczak and Easton Foss both scoring 12.

Pine City will begin their playoff push on Tuesday 2/24/15.  The official schedule will come out this Sunday.
