1/26/19: Youth Camp

1/25/19: Hinckley-Finalyson

Dragon fans play role in Pine City victory

Pine City 83, Hinckley-Finlayson 70
On Friday, Jan. 25, the fans packed the gym in Pine City to watch the Dragons take on Hinckley-Finalyson. The two teams have had some great battles over the years and tonight turned out to be no different. Hinckley-Finalyson had a good run that carried from the end of the first half into the second. The Dragons turned the ball over, allowed easy shots and were not executing well on either end of the court. Pine City dug themselves into a hole and knew there was only one way out.
“The boys really continued to do what we do, never losing faith in the system, and it prevailed in the end,” said Allen. “I was really proud of how the boys reacted to the adversity and came together.”
All 11 players really contributed to the game. The Dragon fans played a role, as well, in Pine City’s 83-70 victory.
“When we needed energy, they [the fans] gave it to us. It is so understated how much a home court advantage can help in a big game. We needed that awesome crowd that night,” said Allen. “Hopefully, we learned a great lesson about not coming out flat and adjusting when we are in a slump, but again, I can’t say enough how proud I was of our team in how they approached the game, before, during and after, and how they stuck together. Great team win.”
The Dragons will host Rush City on Thursday, Jan. 31 and Isle on Tuesday, Feb. 5, before traveling to four away games and returning home to face Ogilvie on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
Varsity: W (83-70)

1/22/19: East Central

Dragon fans play role in Pine City victory

Dragon boys basketball hosted East Central on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
Pine City 73, East Central 41
East Central never backed down during a very physical game; however, Pine City did a great job on the boards to come up with a 73-41 victory. Christopher Trudeau dominated the boards, pulling in 10 rebounds. Three Dragons scored in double figures; Nick Hansmann led Pine City with 16 points, Tanner Wicktor scored 14 and Kolemann Lind shot for 13 points. Seth Logan scored seven points for the Dragons but took on a facilitator role, making plays for others.
“We were able to get a lot of great minutes to all our available players,” said coach Kyle Allen. “That varsity experience is so hard to come by.”
Varsity: W (41-73)
JV: W (42-61)
C-Squad: W (44-62)

1/18/19: @Ogilvie

Dragons set an unofficial MSHS League record

Pine City 92, Ogilvie 22
The next night, Jan. 18, Pine City traveled to Ogilvie and Friday night was one of those nights when the shots just fell. The Dragons were dialed in and did a great job of finding the open shooter. Pine City walked away with a 92 –  22 victory.
The Dragons made 27 three point shots, 20 in the first half alone. Eight different players hit at least two three point shots in the game. Konnor Jusczak led the Dragons with five three point shots. Nick Hansmann and Seth Logan both had four. Koleman Lind, Tanner Wicktor, Duke Waxberg and Kamerson Jusczak all made three, and Caleb Fromm made two. Twenty-seven completed three point shots, in one game, is an unofficial Minnesota State High School League record.
“Having everyone contribute makes it a lot of fun for the whole team,” said Allen. “The boys worked really hard to keep to our concepts and execute our game plan.”
The Dragons will host Hinckley-Finlayson on Friday night, Jan. 25 and Braham on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
Varsity: W (92-22)
JV: W (76-48)
