Homegrown talent Billy Christianson, who between 2006-09 established himself as one of Pine City’s more dominate performers, will embark on his first year as the assistant varsity basketball coach with the Dragons in 2015. This will be his first go around as a varsity level coach.
Christianson, a three sport athlete in High School, was more known for his Football abilities. This however didn’t mean he was to be taken lightly on the hardwood. His football mentality carried over to basketball. He was mainly implemented as a bruiser under the hoop and on the defensive side of things. As much as it pains his past coaches to admit it, he also could be a threat on the offensive side of things. Sometimes bricks can land where they are intended to. Billy was part of the high flying team that made it to the section finals in ‘08. After his career in Pine City, he played football for the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs for 4 years. Up north he was a part of 4 conference championships and a National Championship in 2010.
A 2014 UMD graduate (B.S. degree in criminology), Christianson is currently working for the TSA at the Minneapolis airport.
