The Lumberjacks record is a bit deceiving (8-12) as they play a tough schedule and in a fairly tough conference. Pine City was competitive throughout the game, but the score was made much closer by a dramatic comeback at the end. Pine City just couldn’t get over the hump after trailing for double digits for several stretches in the second half.
“Thought the boys played hard,” said head coach Kyle Allen. “Our execution wasn’t perfect throughout the game. Our defense needs to find some answers in terms of controlling the inside even though we have a lack of size compared to most teams we play. The boys never gave up, continued to fight, we had a chance at the end. We had an open three, down four, with under a minute left, and we put ourselves in a position to win and beat a bigger school; it just didn’t fall.”
Allen praised the play of junior Nathan Kleppe, who shot a high percentage and graded out high in the Dragons system. Kleppe had 13 points. Pine City was led in scoring by Jake Lunceford with 15 points, and Allen praised the junior for his progress this season. Clay Logan scored 10, and both Jake Rademacher and Austin Hansmann graded out very highly in the Dragons system as well. Seth Logan finished with nine and made some big plays in the final moments while Pine City was trying to rally.
