Dragon boys win first 2 rounds in playoffs
Pine City 81 , Osakis 73
The Dragons have never played a game at St. Cloud State during coach Allen’s tenure. That changed on Saturday, March 7, as Pine City put up another win in the playoffs, against Osakis 81-73.
“Playing at a new venue was a bit nerve wracking for me, but walking in and hearing our Pine City fans cheer us on brought calmness to a stressful situation,” said coach Allen. “We are so appreciative of all those who traveled to cheer us on. I cannot state this enough, playing behind a great crowd makes everything better.”
The start of the game got off to a bit of a back and forth battle. The Dragons were able to go up 5-0 before going down 13-7 in the first half. Coming into the game, Pine City felt really good with their preparation and game plan.
“They have one of the best individual scorers we have played this year in Daniel Savogeau, a 2,000 point scorer in his career,” said coach Allen. “Coupling that with their great team athleticism and impressive coaching/discipline, we knew we were in for a good game.”
Tanner Wicktor and Caleb Fromm drew the task of guarding Savogeau and chased him around all night. The Dragon team did a great job rebounding and focus on the defensive end, bringing them home the victory. Throughout the game, the Dragons boys continued to stick to the game plan, believing the plan would give them the highest percentage chance at success.
“We will be taking on Mora on Wednesday. We are hoping for another great Pine City crowd to help cheer us on to victor,” said coach Allen. “I cannot stress enough how much of an advantage playing in front of our awesome crowd is, we truly appreciate you.”
