Boys basketball shoots past the competition
Pine City 76, Milaca 60
On Friday, Jan. 3 Pine City boys basketball faced-off against Milaca. The first half had a lot of even basketball both ways. Milaca is a team that is trying to do things in a productive way. They have some really good athletes who have some great basketball talent; however, the Dragons came away with the win 76-60.
In the second half, the Dragons really hunkered down and had a lot of focus. A big part of Pine City’s offensive philosophy is to put players in a position to take the shot that they see is valuable, whether it goes in or not. Focusing on taking the correct shot, they feel that when they do this, they will make more shots than they will miss.
Koleman Lind was a great example of this in the second half. He kept taking the correct shots, and his teammates continued to set him up correctly, and he hit seven three-point shots in the second half. With a three-point shot in the first half, this ties a PCHS boys basketball record of eight in a game (originally set by now assistant coach Mitchell Hansmann when he was a sophomore).
“Really happy about how we were physical inside on the boards,” said coach Kyle Allen.
Christian Fromm did a great job setting the tone and came down with a game high eight total rebounds followed by Seth Logan with seven. Duke Waxberg ended the night with four total rebounds, three assists and four steals.
“A lot of times the scoring gets the attention, but most of the time, it’s the ‘everything else’ that wins the game,” said coach Allen.
