7th Grade HOOPs Tournament @ Northwestern

PC v. Esko

The team got off to a slow start down 18-9.  The players had a number of great looks at 3's but couldn't hit in the first half. As the second half rolled on the shots began to drop but again they found themselves down 33-26 at the end of the 3rd quarter.  Good pressure by the team's press lead to many turnovers by the Eskomos in which Pine City converted to points.  The first lead came with 1:20 left in the game.  Esko was forced to foul and the Dragons knocked down the free throws to win.

PC v. Chequomegon

Pine City's pressure was too much in the first half and the game was over early.  All 10 players got a lot of time and everyone really contributed to this win.

PC v Ashland

This game was similar to the last.  Things got out of hand early.  The Dragons were up 25 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.  Again, everyone contributed a lot to this lop sided win.

PC v. Northwestern

Northwestern hosted the tournament.  The dragons have played them 9 times over the last few years and have never won.  This is the team's biggest and more important rival in the league. The two matched up in the finals.  Pine City got out to a big 17-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.  But Northwestern wouldn't go away quietly battling back to within 4, 35-31 with a minute left.  Good defense and offensive poise fended off the Northwestern team.  The Dragons walked away with a 37-31 win and the championship.
