12/15/17: @East Central

Pine City Pioneer, Jesse Logan

Pine City 80, East Central 36

Played on the road on Friday, Dec. 15, Pine City once again looked slow offensively out of the gate. The Dragons managed just one basket in the first four minutes as they are struggling to fill a void at the ‘creator’ role in the offense. The Dragons fell behind 10-3, but would finish the half on a 42-7 run once the shots started dropping.

“As the game started,” said Allen, “it felt like a shot was never going to fall. But we talk about it all the time, trust in the system. The boys kept getting great shots, and eventually they fell; they usually do, and on nights that they don't, we want to rely on our tenacious defense and control of the boards. I thought Jake Lunceford played a great game. Not only did he (along with Quentin Miklya) have to take on the responsibility of guarding Gunnar Fogt, who has him by at least six inches, but he really did an outstanding job on the boards. Lunce has the athletic ability to do that on any given night.”

Clay Logan was extremely efficient on the offensive end with 20 points in 17 minutes while making more than half of the shots he took, including four threes. Nick Hansmann put up 18 points on 6-15 shooting while adding some solid defense to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. Jake Rademacher finished with a season-high 12 points while the team got 11 points from Jusczak. Christian Fromm tallied his first varsity points.

The Dragons have just one game this week, at Blake School, before playing a pair of road games in Cloquet over the holiday break.

Varsity: W (80-36)
JV: W (76-31)
C: L (46-49)
