2/2/19: Rush City

Dragons defeat Rush City rivals

Because of the crazy weather, the Dragons’ Thursday night, Jan. 31 game against Rush City was played on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 2.
When Pine City played Rush City earlier in the year, they were unable to shoot the ball at the rate and percentage that this Dragon team is used to. That was not the case on Saturday. Due to their tenacity on the defensive end of the court, pulling down the ball under the boards, and their ability to stick to their system, Pine City was able to walk out of Rush City with a 71-44 victory.
“On Saturday, we shot a much better percentage while also playing great on the defensive end. We only had 31 rebounds; part of that was due to the better shooting percentage on our end,” said coach Kyle Allen. “That is a number we want to see go up. I did like our assist number and our low turnover number.”
Tanner Wicktor, who is usually guarding the perimeter, showed his strength under the boards, leading the Dragons in total rebounds with six. Koleman Lind led the Dragons in assists with five. Lind is getting valuable playing time and Pine City is looking to him to lead the offense in the future. Konnor Jusczak came in off the bench and hit four three-point shots.
“Although it doesn’t always show up in the stat sheet, I thought Christian Fromm had a nice game as well,” said Allen. “He does a lot of the little things that often go unnoticed. His strength and physicality are very important to our team.”
Three Dragons scored in double figures. Nick Hansmann scored 17 points, Koleman Lind scored 16 points and Konnor Jusczak finished the afternoon with 12 points. Jake Adams and Seth Logan both scored nine points, Caleb Fromm scored four points, and Christian Fromm and Christopher Trudeau both scored two.
The Pine City vs. Braham “LaceUp4Cancer” night has been rescheduled for Friday night, Feb. 15 at Pine City.
Varsity: W (44-71)
