Boys basketball shoots past the competition

Pine City 70, Hinckley-Finlayson 48
On Tuesday, Jan. 7 the Dragons matched up against Hinckley-Finlayson. Pine City has struggled to put together strong play in two halves of one game for most of this season, and this game was no different. Pine City made some adjustments on the floor to defeat Hinckley-Finlayson 70-48.
“I was really happy at half time; we came out and were in control for almost the entirety of the first half. Our players were everywhere, very excited, very energetic, and were executing the game plan to a high degree with lots of success, said coach Allen. “We got away from that in the second half. Give credit to H-F, they never gave in and kept coming at us.”
After a nice little Pine City run to start the second half, Hinckley-Finlayson cut the Dragon lead to single digits at one point during the second half.
“I do love how our boys responded, although I would have loved for it to happen a little earlier, and we were able to stretch the lead out and come out of their new and beautiful facility with a win,” said coach Allen.
Hinckley-Finlayson’s had the ability to give themselves second opportunities and not allow the Dragons to gain those during some stretches in the second half. Pine City did a better job executing at the free throw line and shot 88% on the night from there. The Dragons also had some balanced scoring, with nine players scoring and scoring more than 13 points. This shows how versatile Pine City can be offensively on the floor.
